Lady Dobson, Richard and William.

I truly feel the weight of your loss. Sir Dobson seemed to me a kind, unassuming soul. I had the pleasure and honor of completing my graduate studies as a Johnian from 2008-2009, his style of leadership as patriarch for St. John's was pivotal and endearing. I can only imagine how he must have served in that role for your family.
It feels far too soon for him to have ascended to his next great role so I can only understand that it is for some higher purpose.

What an incredible life to have lived and legacy to leave with you, with us all. I pray that you may find solace in that legacy. Sincerest, heartfelt condolences.

A truly remarkable leader whose accessability and friendship to past and present Johnians has become the keystone for our next 500 years. Surely Sir Christopher has few, if any, rivals for the true meaning of Oxbridge. Our thoughts are very much with Dr Mary and their sons at this saddest of times.

It was with great sadness that we learned of Master Dobson's passing; please accept our heartfelt condolences.
Our time at St John's was some of the best years of our life, and no doubt the Master was key to creating such a great environment to learn and grow. I met Sir Dobson on a few occasions and every time he was incredibly kind, insightful and humble. I always felt he truly cared and we are both saddened to hear of his passing. We wish his family well during this sad time.

So sad to read of the Master's death. I was very touched earlier in the year when I received an unexpected letter from him, on behalf of the College, offering congratulations on my 90th birthday. It was an example of his expressed opinion that one is always a member of the College and not a 'former' member! He will be much missed.

A humble, gracious man who showed nothing but kindness to our family.

It was with great sadness I received the news. I am so thankful for getting the chance to be part of the amazing research environment that Chris created in Cambridge. That time will always be very special for me and I do my best every day to live up to the scientific brilliance and the generous and encouraging leadership that I had the privilege to experience when working with Chris.

Very sad news indeed. Many tributes have been paid to Sir Christopher's outstanding professional career, but mine is more about the man. My wife and I met "Chris", as he wished to be known despite his eminence, at Johnian or Beaufort Society meetings, often during tea which he and Dr Mary Dobson hosted in the Masters Lodge. We always found him to be immensely friendly and welcoming, happy to chat about simple things, amusing and very self-effacing. He made us feel totally at ease whenever we had the occasion to meet him - a great humanitarian as well as a great scientist and leader. He will be sadly missed; our sincere condolences go to Mary, Richard and William ,

I was deeply saddened to hear the demise of Professor Dobson. It is a great loss both for the scientific community as well as for the Johnian family. I will never forget the occasions when I had the chance to interact with the Master at his home after the concerts. My condolences to Mary, Richard and William.

Sir Chris was a wonderfully kind, gentle and accomplished man of whom I have very fond memories from my time as an undergraduate. He was the person I knelt before, and who held my hands in his, when I was made a scholar and when I took my degree. He was greatly loved by all members of the College and we shall miss him greatly.
