A fine man and wonderful ambassador and supporter of the Choir and the Choir Association. He will be missed, greatly, by us all.
Alastair Roberts (Chorister 1956-59 and former Chair of the College Choir Association)
Sir Christopher was an inspirational Master whose warm hospitality and interest in alumni have done so much to enrich the community that is St John's College. He will be much missed, but always remembered for his huge contribution to the evolution of the college and its distinctive culture.

The time and industry expended (not to mention the energy and attentiveness given over to our College) are unimpeachable and inestimable; a 'rara avis' indeed. It is hard to come to terms with such a loss. Copious outpourings of sympathy and tears for Lady Dobson, Richard and William, in this sorrowful matter.

“If ever I forget your name, let me forget home and heaven…for you was a good man, and did good things.” (Marty South’s closing words of Thomas Hardy’s 'The Woodlanders')
Michael Lumley (1957)
Sir Chris was a great Johnian and personally guided me with some critical career decisions. Clearly a brilliant Chemist, Chris also had the business acumen, communication and diplomatic skills required to lead St. John's College. A brilliant man who will be sorely missed by his family, friends, industry and all Johnians.
Randolph Brazier (2012)
Sir Christopher was the archetypal College man, always interested in anything that was going on in College, whether that be academia, sport, music or anything else. Above all, he cared deeply about every student in the College and making sure they had the most rewarding time possible. He will be much missed.

I deeply saddened by this news. It was a great privilege to have been able to work with Chris. He was always kind, patient and charming as well as absolutely brilliant and insightful. A great loss. My thoughts are with Mary and their sons.

A tragic loss for The College , an appalling loss for his family and a sad loss for all Alumni for whom Christopher Dobson had become a great supporter. Always welcoming, always interested to share conversations whilst being incredibly kind and considerate.
He was a delightful man to have known.

Condolences to the Dobson family. Chris always found time to talk to students and help with their endeavors, despite a busy schedule of research and philanthropy. I will be forever grateful to Chris for his support during my years at St John's. He will be sorely missed.

He was a wonderful and kind man I had the pleasure of knowing for only a very short time as a chorister parent. However, of the few occasions I spoke to him as a Chorister it was very clear he was special and will be greatly missed. If only there were more people in the world like this. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
