It was a great privilege for me to have met Prof Dobson during my fellowship period (Dr Manmohan Singh Fellowship 2011 Batch). I still remember his smile and his kind gesture and going an extra mile to support students from across the world.

My deep condolences! May god gives strength to the family to bear this loss.

We are so sorry to hear the news about the Master. He was always so kind and pleasant and I shall never forget taking that amazing photograph of him and his wife with the Queen and Duke.

I am privileged to join with so many who have attested to the qualities of Chris Dobson. These ranged very broadly, as the many tributes to him show. His support for the chapel and choir particularly resonate with me, but it is important that this support was offered in the context of the life of the college as a whole, which it undoubtedly was. I offer condolences to all who are feeling a deep sense of loss at this time.

I was sitting under the Tower after evensong at the end of June. Chris saw me and walked over. In a few words, we covered the ground of our occasional meetings on biological chemistry since the late '80s. He recalled them all. I commented that this was the last reunion weekend when I could greet him as Master, and asked about the future. He gently demurred - and now I understand why. I treasure our last meeting and bear the sadness of his departure with a heavy heart. He epitomised for me so much of the very best of St. John's.

Chris will be forever in my mind and heart. He somehow managed to pack into his time several lives, as a family man, a ground breaking scientist in several fields, a college leader and above all as a human being with unique warmth and sincerity. He had a genuine interest in me when I was a young scientist and graduate student with him in the early 90s in Oxford and then beyond. Moving quickly from the mundane to an insightful conversation, as well as his superb wit were the other cornerstones of his personality. I am very sad that his life had to end this way and especially that it ended early. He made the world so bright for many of us by his unrelenting enthusiasm for science and by his encouragement of those wrestling with the process of research and discovery. My deep sympathies go to his close recent colleagues, in the Department and in College and especially to Mary, William and Richard.

Dear Mary Dobson,

Our heartfelt condolences to you and the family.
Sir Christopher will be dearly missed. During his time as Master of St Johns, he has really reached out to the college alumni and I have personally met him several times out here in Singapore. Invariably, in these visits, he also took time to acquaint himself with the scientific work happening here.

I met Professor Dobson when I visited his research group in 2006 as a postdoc. He was very kind and ensured me of his support, for which I remain thankful to this day. I admired him as much for his personal kindness as for his substantial impact on protein science.
