I have not had the pleasure of meeting Sir Christopher but having read his obituary how sorry I am not to have had that pleasure. We have lost a very great man who will be sadly missed.

I was so sad to hear of the passing of Sir Christopher. It was wonderful to see him at various Johnian events to which he brought a warmth building authentic connections with people across the globe. His is a life well lived, and in his college role he has left difficult shoes to fill. My thoughts are with the family.

Dear Mary, Richard and William. We were very sorry to learn of the passing of Sir Christopher. We wanted to write and let you know how thankful we were for his support of the Choir of St John. You kindly opened up your home and garden to us on many occasions and we have felt vey welcomed into the St John's College community. He was a wonderful Master and will be greatly missed. We hope that the tributes to him will bring you some comfort at this time.
With our love and prayers,
James and Naomi Mews, St John's College Choir Chorister parents
Dear family of Chris Dobson, and scientific community,

In addition to many people who were very close with Chris Dobson, there were thousands of individuals - like me - who actually did not know him personally that well, but who were inspired by his excellent presentations at scientific conferences, and valuable publications in scientific journals. He is leaving a lasting legacy.

With my deepest sympathy.

I first came into contact with Sir Christopher at a Donor's Lunch soon after he became Master. I was very impressed by the speech he gave at the lunch; I particularly remember an aside in which he said we were "not ANY College, we were St. John's College" - there was then a very strong round of applause! This immediately showed his strong devotion to the College. His later work for the College - Studentships and other projects - amply comfirmed his devotion.
He will be a hard act to follow.

A very sad loss to humanity and to his family and colleagues.

I was a friend of Richard Perham when I was up at John's and readily joined the Beaufort Society when he launched it. When Ricard sadly died, I had concerns about Chris (or anyone else) taking over the Society. I need not have worried. Chris was absolutely charming, spoke convincingly and showed every bit as much commitment to the Society as Richard himself. He truly was a brilliant choice as Master, for which we all are grateful. When my wife died, Chris penned a very kind additional and personal note beneath the standard letter of condolence, which meant a great deal to me. Sir Christopher was clearly a most generous and thoughtful man. He will be sorely missed.

Our strongest memory is of Chris on the banks of the Cam, watching LMBC go head of the Mays in 2016. I don't think I have ever seen the Master of a college so excited! This was clearly a rare calibre of a man - excellent in his academic field, but also very present and involved in the college, who was able to lead and motivate people in all sorts of fields beyond his own experience. What a great loss - our deepest sympathy to Chris's family.
