He was always so kind to me whenever I saw him; always asking after my well-being and offering some comforting words and advice, if things maybe weren't going so well. I will always remember him, my thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

Such sad news, to be at the top of his field academically as well as maintaining and going well beyond his duties as master was inspiring. Will always remember and appreciate his support for LMBC. His presence will be truly missed throughout Johns.

Chris was a truly inspirational person in every way. His brilliance as a scientist is recognised worldwide and so too should be his remarkable leadership abilities. His speech, for example, on Britain and Europe at the Ante Portam Latinum feast of 2017 and the parallels he drew between our time and the early history of the College in the face of Bishop Fisher's incarceration and execution in the Tower was truly masterly - inclusive, erudite, humane, insightful, empowering, reassuring. What a loss, far, far too early of such a kind, generous and compassionate person. Most profound condolences to Mary, Richard and William and all the many who knew and loved him.

I was sad and shocked to learn of Sir Christopher’s untimely death. He had a great personality and exuded a powerful yet approachable presence – he was simply a nice man and a great asset to the college.
He will be really missed and I feel much sympathy for his family and friends.

I was shattered to hear the news of his death. His support of the choir has been inspiring for all who participate in music making in the college. This was just one example of his extraordinary dedication to the college and he will be sorely missed by all. Prayers and best wishes to his family.

An outstanding scientist who leaves an incredible legacy behind him.
I remember during my PhD, I asked Professor Dobson if I could re-use some of his materials in the introduction of my manuscript and even if I had never met him, he responded very quickly, in such a genuine way, that he was very happy to let me do so and wished me good luck with my thesis. This was back in 2016.
He'll be surely missed. May he rest in peace. All my prayers and thoughts are with his family.

I met Chris many times over the years in a variety of contexts and was always impressed by the trouble he always took to talk to me, even when he was very busy, and the genuine interest he showed. I particularly remember the his kindness and humour in setting my teenaged daughter at her ease when she was very nervous about being invited to lunch in the Master’s Lodge. My thoughts go out to Mary and his family - he will be sorely missed.
