My thoughts and prayers for the family and loved ones of the wonderful Sir Chris. It was an honour and a privilege to have been at St John’s under his tenure as Master.
Rest in Peace Sir Chris, and thank you for your contribution to Humanity.
Cdr Adrian Balhetchet RN (MPhil 2012)
I learned a lot from Chris by scientific discussions and collaboration. I also would like to thank Chris for hosting me as an overseas visiting scholar of St John's College in the Michaelmas Term, 2011, which led to a great student exchange program between St John's College and Nagoya University, Japan. I would like to send my heartfelt condolences to Mary and family.
Yuko OKAMOTO (Nagoya University, Japan)
The death of Chris Dobson is a shattering blow to all who knew him. I consider myself privileged to have known him as a colleague and a friend. I was Head of the Department of Chemistry when Chris attracted the crucial seed funding for a Chemistry of Health building. The Department owes him a huge debt for this initiative - but science and society as a whole owe him a much greater debt for his research into the role of protein misfolding in many crippling diseases. He will be remembered both for his groundbreaking science and for his warmth and kindness as a human being.

A wonderful mentor and visionary. He packed so much into his life - very impressive - shame it ended so early.

In the short time I got to know him at St. John's, he had a huge impact on me and the college. He epitomised the spirit of care and community in his work and within the life of St. John's. My thoughts are with his family, and hope they can take some comfort in the network of people he has touched worldwide.

I only met Chris Dobson on a few occasions, notably at dinner in the Combination Room. He was an inspiration to us all, kind, generous and genuinely interested in people. I will remember him, on our last visit earlier this year, at evensong in Chapel, faithful dog Jimbo at his feet. My condolences go to all his family.

A huge loss to the College. From my perspective, the College has developed considerably under his leadership in every respect. He will be sorely missed. As Master, he can be replaced, but as husband and father he cannot; my thoughts are with his family.

May he rest in peace. My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Sir Christopher at this difficult time,
I hope you can draw consolation from many pleasant memories and the fact that the many great and fruitful activities that your husband, father, friend has initiated during his busy life will continue, and be a testament to his work. His research on various diseases will help many in the future, and has improved our understanding of our body.
Prof Jochen L Leidner, MA MPhil PhD FRGS
I met Christopher Dobson twice, briefly. No airs & graces, just genuine warmth & friendship & welcome. He loved the College, the Choir, everyone. I felt I'd come home again. What a man!
