Such sadness in hearing this news, he was such a lovely man and I have many fond memories of his dedication to college. We always looked forward to his speeches at dinners, which inspired us to achieve whilst making us laugh and made us proud of ourselves. He admired our snowman building, listened to our thoughts and concerns and in every way fulfilled his role as Master of John's.

Chris was my PhD supervisor from 2002-2006. He gave me all the freedom I wanted to "play" in his lab. Wonderful years. Forever grateful, "tremendously" grateful...
My thoughts with the family.

Chris was an exceptional person, who made enormous contribution to science and who shaped the lives and scientific paths of many present and ex-members of his lab and his friends around the world. He was my mentor and dearest friend for 28 years. He was elected an honorary doctor of our Umea University in Sweden. His legacy will live on in the work of all those whom he has inspired over decades. His achievements would be enough for few life times. His memory will live in the hearts of many who knew and deeply loved him. He was a very happy and dignified person. Would be able to do so much more. But now we shall stop and give the tribute to this exceptional human being and great scientist. My deepest condolences to Mary, Richard and William and to all members of the St john's college and Chris's friends all over the world.

Professor Dobson was a true gentleman; humble, fiercely intelligent, humorous and he had an uncanny ability to make everyone he spoke with at ease. Despite being Master of the college, his calm and down-to-earth demeanour made it feel like he was one of us (extending to bumping into Professor Dobson in Hong Kong Fusion on several occasions!). His legacy, no doubt, lives on. My deepest condolences to the family.

We were privileged to get to know both Chris and Mary during the launch of the Manmohan Singh Scholarship program ten years ago, and have seen them many times since, including having them over for dinner at our home, and indeed once staying at theirs in the Master's original bedroom (rather embarrassingly)! Chris was not only a man of great intellect and dignity, he was also enormously humorous and warm and generous. I remember one time when he was furtively messaging me whilst he was at some University council meeting that he couldn't escape from. We were both deeply saddened to hear of his passing away, a man of such great repute but also a friend. Our sincerest condolences to Mary and the family. Ab and Zarna Banerjee.

My students and I are deeply saddened to hear the passing of Professor Sir Christopher. I was tremendously influenced by his work on amyloids over the past two decades. I can distinctly recall the first time I heard him speak in 1999 when I was a student at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. His mesmerizing evening lecture changed my academic life. I have had several opportunities to interact with him at various stages of my career at various geographical locations (San Diego, Cambridge, Uppsala, etc.). A dream came true when he accepted my invitation to visit my institute, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Mohali, during an intrinsically disordered protein conference that I organized in December 2017. We were honored to have him visit us. He gave an EMBO keynote lecture entitled "The Amyloid State of Proteins and its Significance in Biology and Medicine". Chris will always be remembered for his prodigious scientific accomplishments as well as for his personal warmth and kindness. His indomitable spirit lives on in the groundbreaking discoveries he made over the past four decades.

Chris has touched the lives of many scientists by his generous advice and kind words. I vividly recall how he directed my PhD exam and jumped in on multiple occasions when he realized that I was asked a question that I'd rather not be asked. His achievements in science and as Master of St. John's while being a wonderful person set an example for generations of students and co-workers. They really had the opportunity to stand on the shoulders of a (very kind) giant.
