A great loss for the College and the scientific community. He will be sorely missed. My heartfelt condolences to his wife and children.

Though I didn’t know Sir Dobson very well, he nevertheless seemed like a kind and calm figure in the busy life of the college. It was under his stewardship that the college grew to be more inclusive and more open and he played a great part in setting an example to us all, of doing amazing intellectual work but also leading a full life with humour. I had the best 4 years of my life at St John’s, always feeling welcomed, taken care of and inspired, and for that I will be forever grateful to him. My sincere condoleances to his family and friends.

I would like to record my admiration and respect for Chris Dobson, whose gentle and good-humoured kindness helped to make my stay as a Fellow at St John's a particularly happy time. Thank you!

I did not know the Master but experienced the growth and development in stature of the College during his tenure. For that if nothing else, I will remember his efforts - as a guardian of St. John's for future generations.

Sincerest condolences to Mary and all the family. As a former choral scholar I am keenly aware how much the choir meant to Chris and how integral his support was to the choir. He will be sorely missed but his generosity of spirit will remain an inspiration to those who knew him.

May he rest in peace.
