I studied at the college from 2007-2010. I was lucky enough to be placed next to Chris at my matriculation dinner and then again, on request, at both half way hall and graduation. We had a lot in common and I found him incredibly warm and inspirational. He was so encouraging of my passion for theatre and once leant me a DVD that he thought I would find useful. It was always a pleasure to pass him on the paths of college and have a catch up conversation. He was such a compassionate and interesting man and I am sure will be missed most terribly by his family and friends.

I only met Chris Dobson a few times, but I was struck by his calm, kindness and insight. I'm really sorry he's gone. It's a great loss to the college - my condolences also to his family.

Chris was a wonderful, warm man, who exuded kindness and friendliness to those whom he met. He was particularly supportive of me in my various roles in the University, especially working with Postdoctoral Research staff. I will miss his joviality, and his presence. This is such sad news, for Chris was a person who had so much more to give, not only as Master of St John's but also in his academic work. With warmest good wishes and deepest condolences to Mary, Richard and William.

A truly good man. Good to those fortunate to know him. Good for his College. Good for humanity. Of how many people can it be said "millions will benefit from his work"....

I matriculated in 1980 so I only crossed paths with Sir Christopher twice at college reunions where I was treated very kindly by him and his wife. My heart goes out to his wife and children. What a decent, generous and self-effacing man he appeared to be from my two conversations with him.

Such sad news. My condolences to the family of Sir Christopher who will be greatly missed by all associated with St. John's.

While I did not have the good fortune to know Sir Christopher, I have seen evidence of his great good influence on St. John's College and had a sense of him as deeply admirable. News of his too early death is sad. He was a great contributor to the power of the college and that power will be duly displayed in honoring him.
