I was lucky enough to have Chris as my tutor at LMH. I will always be grateful to him for offering me a place at the college and for his support throughout my time there. My condolences to his family.

I am so sad to hear of Christopher's passing. I have only fond memories of him at Johns. His support for St Johns Voices was particularly strong and helped us so much at the beginning. Him and Mary inviting us over for dinner and coming to evensong. Serving him a custom cocktail at one of our more lively JCR garden party ents made of ingredients that spelt out Master (we had run out of soft drinks!) and Mary ordering the same after tasting his! His speeches to students were always inspiring and his love for the college so evident. I will always remember his kindness and warmth of personality during my time at Johns and my deepest condolences go out to Mary and his family.

Rest in peace dearest Chris, safe in the knowledge that the countless individuals you have inspired will carry you forever in their hearts and minds and that your work, which made an unparalleled contribution to your field, leaves a global legacy that will survive for many lifetimes to come. You will be deeply, deeply missed.

If the word of one Johnian were to be applied to another:
"What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be now for ever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;
In the primal sympathy
Which having been must ever be;"

Saddened to hear of Chris' passing, grateful for his legacy.

It is hard to think about John's without thinking about Professor Dobson. But his wit, dedication and inspiration have left a mark that will not go so soon. My thoughts go to his family and friends, his colleagues and the entire John's community.

It has been a pleasure to see our College, under such inspired leadership, go from strength to strength, especially in its outreach to alumni and the studentship and bursary programmes. Sir Christopher was wise, warm, humourous and always welcoming. He epitomised the best of St John's College and was an example to all of us. He will be sadly missed and Catalina and I send our sincere condolences to his wife and family.

Sir Chris was the kind of person who could inspire students while at the same time making them feel completely at ease. I will never forget his speeches at Graduation and at dinners throughout (e.g. Halfway Hall) - they always made me proud to be a Johnian. It is incredibly sad to hear of his passing - he will be sorely missed.
