It was a real privilege to study at St. John’s College with Professor Dobson as its Master. Professor Dobson was a superb leader, a wonderful scientist and true gentleman. I will always be grateful for the time he devoted to the students at St. John’s despite his vast array of academic pursuits and professional responsibilities. His passing is incredibly sad and I extend my deepest condolences to his family.

My sincerest condolences to Dr Mary Dobson, Richard, William, and all of Professor Dobson's loved ones - I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. From my very first day in John's, Professor Dobson made me feel utterly welcome and accepted. His emphasis on John's being a community we would forever belong to really brought home to me how privileged I was to be accepted into such a wonderful college; I'll never forget how proud and excited I felt during his speech at our matriculation dinner. During all my meetings with Professor Dobson he was incredibly kind and genuinely interested in everything I had to say, and the twinkle in his eye made me forget to even be nervous in his presence. Despite John's being such a large community, he had a way of making all of us feel known and seen - during my graduation his warm smile and 'congratulations!' brought tears to my mother's eyes, who later asked why the Master had singled me out; the truth is that he did it because above all else, he was kind, and he always knew just what to say or do to make us feel exceptional. Thank you for everything, Professor Dobson - you made my time at John's that much more magical, and I'll never forget you.

I met Chris and his wife when seated beside them at my first John's dinner in 2009. They were wonderfully friendly and engaging, and their kindness was not forgotten as I found my feet in the months following. He will be much missed.
