Correspondence of George Shaw. English, 1840.

 

'Letters to or from or in some way affecting George Shaw B.A. scholar of Saint John's College Cambridge, commencing February XIV anno salutis nostrae MDCCCXL and ending November VII anno salutis nostrae MDCCCXL.' George Shaw (d. 1845) was admitted to St John's in 1836 and graduated BA in 1840 (junior optime and second class in the Classical Tripos). He served as curate of Fen Drayton, Cambridgeshire, from 1843 and died at Torquay in Jan. 1845.

'A narrative of the early life of the reverend John Farrent (who was born 15 Dec. 1783) written by himself 11 May 1806, and continued in the form of a diary to 12 Oct. 1813, the time of his settlement as pastor of the church at Isleham.'

William Henry Black (1808-72): 'The Metropolitan Ministers, a century ago. Biographical Collections, intended to illustrate the Autographs of the Presbyterian, Independent, and Baptist, and of the French and Dutch Ministers who signed the Addresses to the Princess of Wales, on the death of George II and accession of George III, in 1760', dated 1860 on title page and in a note of purchase inside front cover.

Anthony Dopping, Journal as Bishop of Meath. Latin and English, 1678-94

Anthony Dopping, Bishop of Meath (1643-97): 'Private Journal ... being a diary of the contest between James and William, also of private, ecclesiastical and collegiate matters from 1678 to 1694' (label pasted to front cover). Dopping was successively Bishop of Kildare (1678-81) and Meath (1681-97). A strong opponent of Roman Catholicism he was a privy counsellor in Ireland under both Charles II and William III.

Collection of Graces for degrees in the University of Cambridge, dated between 1630 and 1661, possibly gathered as precedents by an official of the University. The graces are in approximate chronological order.
