Dear Dr Mary Dobson, Richard and William, and friends of St. John's College,

I have been saddened by the news of Sir Christopher's demise. As a former student of St. John's College, allow me to join your prayer for your husband, farther and Master.

Yours sincerely,

I was very sad to hear about the Master. I shall never forget my last sight of him this year as the Trinity May Ball fireworks started up, being dragged back across the kitchen bridge by his terrified dog at high speed. He had wisely stood by the bridge on the edge of the crowd in case his dog panicked; forever thoughtful of others.

Chris was a passionate and talented scientist and a wonderful human being. Thank you Chris for everything you gave. My thoughts are with his family, with those at Johns, and with those in science that feel the sadness of what has been lost from the world with his passing.

Sir Christopher was an outstanding academic and scientist, but everyone who studied at John's under his leadership remembers him even more so for his kindness, the way he had no qualms about jumping right into college traditions and his absolute commitment to the most important part of John's - the students.

I greatly enjoyed meeting Prof Dobson when he visited San Francisco alumni a few years ago - he was a wonderfully engaging ambassador for St Johns. A very sad loss.

We mourn the loss of a wonderful man, who made us feel so welcome when we were visiting St John's during 2009. Our hearts go out to Mary and the family, Constant and Maryna Mews

Having graduated from St. Johns in 1949, it was my misfortune never to have met Sir Christopher. Most of my subsequent life has been spent all over the World and for the last 33 years I have been living in New Zealand.

Nevertheless, I should like to express my sincere condolences to Lady Dobson, Richard and William Dobson.

This is clearlly a great loss for the College losing its Master at such a young age.

I will remember the Master at some of the college rugby matches, being happy to give a talk to a room of 8 medical students (when he normally command the attention of hundreds), coming to the buttery on Saturday brunch, and of course the warmth with which he and his family welcomed me in to the university, the college, and also their home. To do all this, while being so high up within the university and within his field showed me that he truly cared for the life of the college and the experience that students had. He was a great inspiration and it is deeply sad that he has been lost by so many people. My deepest condolences to the familof friends of the Master

I only met the Master briefly in my time at St. John’s, but the atmosphere he oversaw at the college left me with so many of the happiest memories of my life that I cannot help but be grateful. It’s a testament to his role as an educator, and this is a great loss. My condolences.
