Extremely sad to hear this news. My condolences to Mary, Richard and William. Chris was a fantastic scientist. One of his greatest gifts was being able to foster wonderful collaborations with scientists of many specialties. Someone who built and maintained networks - more important now than ever. A terrible loss but an amazing legacy.

I was always amazed at his friendly personal messages at Christmas and to report on progress of student recipients of scholarship. I wish I had met him.
Revd Prof D William D Shaw (Bill)
My condolences to Sir Christopher's family; to St. John's, for having lost such a loved and respected Master; and to the University, for having lost such a significant academic.

I will always remember how friendly and supportive Chris was to me---as a just-starting-out academic---throughout my time in the College, and how he encouraged all of the Fellows to act similarly. He made St John's a wonderful place to be.

Sir Christopher showed a profound sense of care for the students at St John's. He created a positive and empowering atmosphere at the college, and he was approachable while serving as an academic role model. One of my favorite memories from my graduate programme was sitting at the head table at the Quincentenary graduate dinner with the Master - it was a highlight of my educational career. My condolences to Dr Dobson and their family for their loss.

Christopher Dobson started as Master the same year that I started at St John's, and he was the person who presided over my graduation. He was a man of great integrity, kindness, and he made a big impact on me as a student. I am so sorry for his family's loss, and I hope that all of the many words of condolence will bring some comfort.

If the measure of a person is the legacy they leave, then Chris was truly a great man. As well as his loving family, he not only made a huge contribution to the College, and the University, across a number of areas, not least his championing of the Free Thinking initiative, but also was one of the world's leading scientists working on dementia - indeed, his work in this field may well prove to have a significant effect on the wellbeing of humankind. He will be sorely missed.
