[Frank Thistlethwaite (1915-2003)]: autograph manuscript diary, concerning the author’s visit to Japan, September – October, 1983. Thistlethwaite was admitted to St John’s College to study English and History in 1934, graduating B.A. 1938, M.A. 1941. He was Fellow of the College from 1945 to 1961; College Lecturer in History 1949-1961; and Lecturer for the Faculty of Economics and Politics, University of Cambridge, 1949-1961. Thistlethwaite was appointed the founding Vice-Chancellor of the University of East Anglia (UEA) in 1961, a position he retained until 1980. In 1962, he became UEA’s representative on the Inter-University Council for Higher Education Overseas (IUC), and later Chairman, 1977-1981.
