GW Associates

The Company

GWA

GW Associates offer innovative development and management services to technology businesses and users.

GWA has been working in technology design since the 1990. They consciously choose to remain a small focused agile team who offer scale through an extensive network of partners and suppliers. With this model they have worked successfully with customers spanning early stage start-ups right up to major corporations and government agencies.

The Opportunity

Internship

Reflecting the broad range of work GWA undertake,  the internship opportunity provides scope to cover high integrity systems design and integration , control electronics and embedded software implementation and test.  GWA is able to offer some flexibility in these areas to match a clients abilities and interests. As GWA’s primary work flow is very much driven by our clients needs the precise project work available at the time may vary, however we anticipate that it is likely to be based on one of the following projects.

Advanced Linear Particle Accelerator Stage for a large European research project. This project involves a mix of electro-mechanical design as well as control system design to manage a 15-20 meter precision temperature controlled vacuum cell used to generate a modulated plasma and accelerate witness electrons. The intern will ideally be able to work as part of a team to produce detailed electrical schematics and drawings and participate in the construction (wiring and rack based electronics assembly) commissioning and test of the control system. Knowledge of DC power systems , PLC control , and sensor measurement (temperature and pressure) would be an advantage. In addition the ability to analyze  design data and collate test results systematically to support failure mode analysis and safety case generation would also be required.

Wireless Electrical  Vehicle Charging Systems. Embedded applications to control the charging of EV using a novel wireless charging system using emerging charging standards under development by major vehicle manufacturers.
Knowledge of embedded control software implementations (ie: Embedded Linux,  C , C++) and firmware test would be an advantage as well as a background knowledge in general electronics/physics

Experience in technical writing and specification using standard office tools and agile collaboration platforms (Confluence , Jira) would also be an advantage.
