The Society

The St John’s College Linguistics Society (SJCLS) aims to promote the study of language and linguistics among College members and to offer support to current students. The society is very unique in being one of the very few collegiate Linguistics societies at Cambridge. Our members are all linguistics undergraduates, postgraduates, Fellows and researchers at St John’s, but anyone who shares a lively interest in the study of language is very welcome to attend our events.

We organise various social and academic events throughout the year, such as subject advice sessions, talks, Meet & Greet events, or formal halls to create a greater sense of community among Johnian linguists and actively encourage participation with language-related events. Given the inherently interdisciplinary nature of linguistics, events may involve the collaboration with other St John’s societies which share an affinity with the study of language in some of its facets.

For information about upcoming events and about the society please visit our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/stjohnslingsoc.
