Benjamin Morgan Cowie, A descriptive catalogue of the manuscripts and scarce books in the library of St John's College, Cambridge (Cambridge, 1842-3). Issued by the Cambridge Antiquarian Society. For Cowie see ODNB. Interleaved and annotated by John Spicer Wood. Wood (1823-93) graduated BA as 22nd Wrangler and 4th Classic in 1846 and the following year was elected to a fellowship. He took his BD in 1857 and his DD in 1869. Wood served the College as Tutor (1860-70), President (1871-83) and Librarian (c.1861-82).

280 x 225 mm. vii, 162 p. + interleaved pages + loose notes on scrap paper. Paper. Cloth binding with leather corners; rebacked in 1956; gilt lettering on spine reads 'St John's Coll. Library. Manuscripts and scarce books. Cowie.'

A note on the flyleaf, in the hand of Charles Previté-Orton, reads 'Library catalogue once belonging to Rev. J.S. Wood D.D. Hon. Librarian of the College c.1861-1882'. Given by Francis Puryer White in 1930 (book label inside upper board).
