Roger Ascham (c. 1515-68): 'Expositiones quaedam antiquae in Epistolam Divi Pauli ad Philemonem ex diversis Sanctorum Patrum graece scriptis commentariis opera ex diligentia Oecumenii collectae et nunc primum Latine versae. Cantabrigiae Anno domini 1542'. The text is printed in Apologia ... Aschami ... pro caena Dominica, etc (1577), pp. 280-96. The dedication copy (dated at fo. 10r 1 Jan. 1543) to Ascham's friend John Seton (d. 1567), also Fellow of St John's (see L. V. Ryan, Roger Ascham (1963), p. 301 n. 23). 97x60 mm. 31 fos. Inside front cover: 'Dominationis tue Studiosissimus Rogerus Aschamus'. At fo. 3r, in Thomas Baker's hand: 'Libellus hic scriptus est, tam manu, quam opera ipsius Ascami'. Presented to the College by John Bernard MA, Fellow of St John's, 1726 (inscription at fo. 3r).
Autograph. Paper. Original limp vellum binding, with decorative title on cover, now much worn. The final, blank, folio is torn.
