Crucifixion scene from f.35v of MS C.9. Irish Psalter, 10th-11th century. The figures above the arms of the cross are either the Virgin and St John or two angels, and that above Christ's head is probably God the Father. To the left of the cross Stephaton holds up a sponge on a reed, and to the right Longinus bears a spear.
