    St John's Magnificat   On Monday 1 March, The Choir of St John's College, Cambridge release their first disc under the direction of Andrew Nethsingha.     Grand Prix du President de la Republique
    Professor Jonathan Harvey, graduate and Honorary Fellow of St John's, has been awarded the 'Grand Prix du President de la Republique' for a life's work in Composition. Harvey is the first British composer to have ever won the award; previous winners include Olivier Messiaen, Elliott Carter, Pierre Boulez, Gyorgy Ligeti, Yannis Xenakis and Henri Dutilleux.  read more

    The College is sad to learn of the death, on Wednesday 27 January 2010, of Dr John Matthewman, aged 71. A former student at the College, he had been a Fellow since 1972, a College Lecturer and Director of Studies, and a University Lecturer in Engineering.read more

    The Master officially launched the Paul Beard Sports Fund during a lunch held at yesterday's Nomura Varsity Match. Following Paul's (Natural Science,1984) sudden passing in January this year at the age of 43, a number of his close Johnian friends have helped to set up and contribute to a College fund in his memory.     Yesterday, 200 Johnians gathered in Twickenham for our third and now traditional lunch at the NomuraVarsity Match, kindly hosted by Francis Baron and Rob Andrew..     Professor Sir Fred Hoyle FRS (1915-2001), Fellow of St John's College, was one of the twentieth century's most colourful and controversial scientists.
