The Queen's Birthday Honours List 2011

The College would like to congratulate the following Johnians, who are among those featured in the Queen's Birthday Honours List 2011.

The list includes current Fellow Professor Sir Mark Welland, and Honorary Fellow Professor Sir Mervyn King.

 

Professor Sir Mark Welland (1986), Fellow of the College. Chief Scientific Advisor, Ministry of Defence. Knight Bachelor.

Professor Sir Mervyn King (1972) [1966 King's], Honorary Fellow of the College. Governor, Bank of England. Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire (GBE).

Lieutenant-General Sir Andrew Ridgway (1989), Lieutenant Governor and Commander in Chief, Jersey. Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE). For Services to the UK and to Jersey.

Sir Woodville Marshall (1958), Emeritus Professor of History, University of the West Indies. Knight Bachelor. For Services to Education.

Professor Geoffrey James Whitty (1965), Lately Director, Institute of Education, University of London. Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). For Services to Teacher Education.

Major General Alan Drury Macklin (1976), Corps of Royal Engineers; now Director, Programmes and Technology Group, Ministry of Defence. Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).

Dr David William Roger Thackray (1967), Head of Archaeology, National Trust. Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). For Services to Heritage.

Jonathan Leonard Bielby (1963), Organist and Director of Music, Wakefield Cathedral (retired 2010). Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). For services to Choral Music.
