Robert Grove (d. 1726)

Robert Grove gained his BA at St John's in 1691/2, and proceeded MA in 1695. He became a Fellow in 1694 and remained so until his death. He was Principal Academic Registrar from 1701.

Grove's gift to the Library

Around forty items in the Library bear Grove's mark, nearly all legal works from the late 15th- to the early 18th-century, although there are a few 16th-century editions of Ovid as well. The former include one volume of incunabula, a French edition of Vocabularius utriusque juris from 1499.

Provenance markings

The books given by Grove bear a short inscription. In translation it reads:

Given by Robert Grove M.A., Fellow of this College, and Principal Registrary of the University.
