Johnian scientists feature in 'Eureka' list

The Times newspaper has named 6 Johnians in their inaugural list of the 100 most important contemporary figures in British science. This is the first time this ranking has been compiled, and it was published in the October edition of'˜Eureka', The Times' monthly science magazine.

The Johnians named in the list are:

17. Plastic electronics pioneer and Cambridge University Professor Richard Friend.

22. Double Nobel laureate Fred Sanger.

54. Former Chief Scientific Advisor to the Government and Director of the Smith School of Enterprise, University of Oxford, David King.

59. Chief Executive, Cancer Research UK, Harpal Kumar.

68. President of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Chair of the recent Independent Review into University tuition fees, Lord Browne.

84. Director of the Nanoscience Centre at the University of Cambridge and Chief Scientific Adviser at the Ministry of Defence, Mark Welland
