St John’s College, one of the largest Colleges within the University of Cambridge, is seeking to appoint an Assistant Groundsperson into its Sports Ground team.

A key element of the role is to assist the Head Groundsman with the care and maintenance of the College sports ground so it can be enjoyed by members of the College, St John’s College School, staff and visitors. Moreover, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks including the trimming of hedges and shrubs, marking and maintenance of lines to pitches and tracks for a variety of sports, cleaning in and around the sports ground and the maintenance and safe use of power and hand tools.

During the University term, the position will require you to work weekends on a rota basis, with occasional weekend work required outside of term.

The successful candidate will be educated to GCSE level or equivalent with a minimum grade C or level 4 in Math and English. Additionally, you will have a Lantra tractor driving qualification or a willingness to obtain this immediately on commencement of the role.

A general working knowledge of sports amenity horticulture methods and sports ground machinery is desirable along with good general working knowledge and safety procedures for machinery. Previous experience of, and a desire to learn about servicing and carrying out basic repairs to grounds machinery would also be advantageous.
