Academic prizes awarded to ‘outstanding’ St John’s students
University recognition for current cohort and recent graduates
Eight current and recent graduates of St John’s College have received accolades for their excellent academic work and exam results in 2024.
Hannah Kang Wolter, who graduated in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies this summer, has been awarded The Robert M Somers Prize for an outstanding performance in her Chinese Studies part II exam.
Fellow recent graduate Alis Francis receives the William Vaughan Lewis Prize for an outstanding dissertation in the Geography Tripos (part II).
Geordie Cheetham, a History and Modern Languages (HML) graduate who is now studying an MPhil, receives the Winifred Georgina Holgate-Pollard Memorial Prize for Best Performance in Part II of the HML Tripos.
Vanessa Akbari, Master of Law (LLM), has been awarded The Faculty of Law Prize for Corporate Governance Law for an outstanding performance in Corporate Governance Law.
Law graduate Hoi Ching Bernice Cheung has been presented with The Faculty of Law Prize for Human Rights Law (Part II) for an outstanding performance in Human Rights Law.
Harry Scott-Burt, a current second-year undergraduate in Modern and Medieval Languages (MML), receives the Kurt Hahn Prize (option B). This prize is awarded annually by the German Part IA Senior Examiner for a distinguished performance in post-A-level German (IA).
Emily Jack, a graduate in MML who is now doing an MPhil in European, Latin American and Comparative Literatures and Culture at St John’s, has been awarded the Italian Cultural Institute Prize for the most outstanding performance in Italian at Part II. Candidates have to offer a majority of papers in Italian to be eligible.
Julia Makin, who gained her BA in Theology this summer, receives two prizes: the Teape Prize for a Distinction in the study of the religions of India in the Theology Tripos (IIB), and the Theological Studies Prize for excellent overall performance (IIB). Julia is now studying for an MPhil at St John’s in Theology, Religion and Philosophy of Religion.
All the recipients have received personal letters of congratulations from Heather Hancock, the Master of St John’s.
