'Fusio', 1900
In 1876 Butler painted a number of watercolours at Fusio, which he later decided were ‘very decent’. After revisiting the view in 1900, he regretted that he had not stuck to watercolours and made a living from selling his pictures. He increasingly felt that his formal art training had been a hindrance to his talent.
