Choir of St John’s release Christmas album

A new Christmas CD has been released by the Choir of St John’s College, Cambridge, ready for the start of the festive season.

Christmas with St John’s is the new festive release by the Choir of St John’s on the College’s record label – an imprint on Signum – and is the second record to be released on the label; Deo received critical acclaim when it came out earlier this year.

The album is a new recording of traditional and contemporary music for the Advent and Christmas seasons sung by the Choir and featuring former Organ Scholar and tenor Joseph Wicks, and conducted by Andrew Nethsingha, Director of Music at St John’s. The recording includes Michael Finnissy’s John the Baptist, which was written especially for the St John’s Advent service in 2014 and broadcast on BBC Radio 3. It also features Rutter’s Dormi Jesu, Creator of the Stars of Night, composed by former St John’s Organ Scholar John Scott, and Bob Chilcott’s The Shepherd’s Carol, which was commissioned by Stephen Cleobury, who was also an Organ Scholar at St John’s. Traditional carols such as Ding Dong! Merrily on High, O Little Town of Bethlehem and The Holly and the Ivy are also included on the album.

The recording is available as a CD or as a download, and can be purchased via iTunes, Amazon, Presto Classical or Google Play – click here for further details. CDs will also be on sale at the Great Gate Porters’ Lodge.
