Fusio (1900)

‘Fusio is over 4200 feet above the level of the sea. I do not know wherein its peculiar charm lies, but it is the best of all the villages of a kindred character that I know’ (Alps and Sanctuaries, chapter 25).
In 1876 Butler painted a number of watercolours at Fusio, which he later decided were ‘very decent’. After revisiting the view in 1900 he regretted that he had not stuck to watercolours and made a living from selling his pictures.
