Each year, St John’s College awards the Pythagoras Prize to a first year home undergraduate student coming to study Mathematics at the College.
The prize of £10,000 is awarded as a one-off prize at the beginning of the student’s first term in Cambridge.
The award is selected on the basis of both academic excellence and financial need. The award aims to increase the accessibility of the College to applicants from all backgrounds who might otherwise be daunted by the national increase in tuition fees.
All Home applicants are eligible for the award and will automatically be put forward. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted in June or July, and the award winner will be announced towards the end of the summer before Matriculation.
