(Left) miniature accompanying the text of the Somme le Roi, showing the beast from the sea as described in the Book of Revelation (chap. 13), with seven heads, ten horns, the body of a leopard, the feet of a bear, and the mouth of a lion. It tramples upon a friar while a man kneels in prayer before it. (Below) Grotesques. From f.169v of MS B.9, a collection of French works (France, second quarter of the 14th century).
