Departmental homepageProfessor McFarlane is the Professor of Industrial Information Engineering and Head of the Distributed Information & Automation Laboratory. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2026.
He teaches on various courses on the Engineering Tripos.
Professor McFarlane's research focuses on distributed automation strategies in the industrial supply chain, determining the impact of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) on industrial decision making and architectures for reconfigurable manufacturing operations.
