College Counsellor

Salary:                 Between £36,574.19 - £41,164.82 p.a. pro rata (depending on experience) plus benefits

St John’s College wishes to appoint a College Counsellor with the skills, experience, and enthusiasm to work with the College Nurse and others members of the Welfare team to provide an effective and confidential counselling service for the junior members of the College.

The College Counsellor will promote the welfare of all students of St John’s College by offering individual assessment, counselling sessions and group work to junior members identified and referred by the College Nurse. The role will also include the provision of advice and assistance to the College Nurse, Chaplain and Tutors to support their students.

The successful candidate will have a minimum qualification of a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling or Psychology and will hold BACP accreditation or UKCP registration.  You will have experience of counselling in a similar institutional setting, working with young adults and working as part of a team.  You will also have expertise in the assessment of mental health needs and the assessment of risk, with good knowledge of appropriate referral pathways; and thorough knowledge of the Ethical Framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.  In addition, you should have strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; and should be computer competent, in particular in the use of Microsoft Office with a willingness and ability to become proficient in the use of the College’s Health database.

Any offer to a successful candidate will be conditional upon a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check.
