Bill DeGrado is a Chemist and Biochemist, who designs proteins and other molecules to gain fundamental insights useful for the development of pharmaceuticals and sustainable processes. He has held visiting fellowships at institutions that include Johns Hopkins University, Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania, UCSF, City University of New York, European Molecular Biology Laboratory.
He played a pioneering role in the development of protein design and is also well known for the design of drugs for conditions such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and drug-resistant bacterial infections. While at St John’s College, Bill is expanding his collaboration with Thomas Knowles on fundamental approaches to the design of diagnostics for neurodegenerative diseases, biofriendly catalysts and sustainable materials.
