Dr. Kurien is a Postdoctoral researcher at the Galliano Laboratory, in the department of Physiology, Development, and Neuroscience. He has a background in Zoology, Stem cell biology and a PhD in invertebrate chemosensory behaviour, with a strong side of molecular biology and imaging.
His overarching research interest lies in understanding how the brain modifies its structure and function in a process called neuronal plasticity to adapt to changes in the external environment and the body’s internal states, such as hormonal changes. Specifically, how plasticity in the neural circuits responsible for chemo-sensation underlies adaptive behaviours, and how these mechanisms are influenced by genetic sex, life-history stages, and evolutionary constraints.
