Medicine Taster Day 2026

St John’s College Medicine Taster Day was aimed at exceptional students at the end of Year 12 England/Wales, S5 Scotland or Y13 Northern Ireland who were considering applying to Cambridge in 2026 by the 15 October deadline.

During the day students attended Q&A sessions, mock ‘supervisions’, and taster lectures delivered by Cambridge academics. Participants explored a range of exciting topics from the Medical Sciences course and found out more about the application process.

They also had the chance to meet current St John’s students and hear first-hand what it is like to live and study here. Lunch was provided free of charge by St John’s College.

The taster day was for students on track to meet or exceed the entry requirements for Cambridge’s Medical Sciences course, as confirmed by a teacher referee.

Applications for all our taster days are assessed on academic merit and places are limited. When selecting participants, we may take personal background into account as well as strong academic ability and potential.

Priority is given to students meeting one or more of the following criteria, as well as the required academic achievement:

• attending a UK state sector school or college
• attending a school outside London and the South East
• currently eligible for Free School Meals
• care-experienced
• young carer
• refugee
• will be first in family to progress to higher education (ie parents did not go to university)
• have not already attended or are not going to attend a Cambridge residential

Should students be offered a place for a taster day, we will require permission from a parent/guardian for the successful applicant to attend.
