Coffee, quizzes and karaoke in bar's packed Michaelmas programme

New facilities and a packed programme of events are on offer at St John's College bar as it opens its doors ready for the start of the new term. A Facebook page has also been launched to promote special offers and events.

The friendly bar is the social hub of the College and the perfect place for students, staff and Fellows to socialise or study in a relaxed environment. A full and varied programme of events will be on offer this term, including a barista event, quiz nights, an open mic evening, board game afternoons, and a karaoke evening. Real ale fans can also look forward to a beer and cheese evening, a real ale week, and a festive beer and carols event at Christmas.

Brand new facilities in the bar this term include long tables, power points for laptops, and a new music system with three independent speaker zones, allowing for music to be switched off in individual areas to make it easier to study.

The bar is now also equipped with a barista-style coffee machine which uses high quality coffee beans to produce fantastic gourmet coffee. Reusable St John's coffee cups can be purchased for £9.30 which includes a free coffee; there is a 10p discount for every coffee purchased in the reusable cup.

As well as the regular bar snack offering, afternoon teas can be pre-ordered. A draught lager and ale will be on offer this term at a discounted rate of £2.75, and during Real Ale week which starts on 17 November, a cask ale from local Milton Brewery will also be available at this reduced price.

Full details of the forthcoming events will be regularly advertised on the new red information board outside the bar and on the St John's College Bar Facebook page – 'like' the page to receive updates.
