Iain Farrington performs at the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games

Iain Farrington (1996), former Organ Scholar, performed in the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games on 27 July. He played the piano in a comic performance of Chariots of Fire with Rowan Atkinson (as Mr Bean) and the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Simon Rattle.

'Performing in the London Olympics was a very special experience, in a sketch that combined a great orchestra and conductor, a comic genius and a stadium of 80,000 people in stitches of laughter,' says Iain.

'My task was to perform the big romantic piano part as if oblivious to Rowan Atkinson's brilliantly eccentric character. Using vast reserves of concentration and plenty of rehearsal, my contribution was curiously entertaining and absurdly rewarding.'
