History - Anushka Chakravarty

Anushka attended Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls in Hertfordshire, gaining A-Levels in History, English and Spanish before coming to study History at St John’s in 2005. She is now doing a Graduate Diploma in Law at City University in London with hopes of becoming a barrister.

'With this independence also comes greater control over one’s own schedule and an opportunity to get more involved in college and university life, be it through academic societies, journalism or the JCR. In this respect, St John’s is unique. Its History Society is one of the most prominent in Cambridge, while sport and the ‘Gents’ choir, are undeniably at the centre of college life, acting as a real unifying force in John’s whether you are a participant or merely a fan.

With so much support, developing my confidence in academic and social situations and my identity as both a historian and a Johnian, was easy. In fact, it has made it terribly difficult to leave. However, as I embark on a career in law, I am very aware that what I have learnt in three years as a historian at John’s will last me a lifetime. As we say: once a Johnian, always a Johnian.'
