Help Desk Technician

St John’s College is looking to appoint a Help Desk Technician to join our IT Department.

Reporting to the Computer Services Manager, you will be responsible for providing first line support to IT users within the College. You will also have the opportunity to become involved in infrastructure development projects.

The role will involve:

  • Diagnosing and correcting common computer problems
  • Carrying out development tasks in the College’s server and network infrastructure under the direction of infrastructure staff.
  • Dealing with people from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Performing basic administrative tasks using a call management system
     

The ideal candidate will have a good level of general education, preferably to degree level, together with a relevant formal computing qualification and/or appropriate experience. You will have an awareness of issues relating to computer security, ITIL, the Data Protection Act, Health and Safety regulations and software copyright. You will also possess excellent Windows, Apple and Unix administration skills and have an understanding of the fundamentals of IP networking. As a first line support person, good customer support and communication skills are essential.
