From murderers to pickpockets, highwaymen to witches, petty theft to high treason – the crimes of Early Modern Britain were as diverse as the men and women who committed them. Using materials from our Special Collections, we explore the lives of notorious law-breakers of the 16th to 18th centuries, examine the justice system which determined their punishments, and discover their final, frightful fates.
