Academic Administrator (maternity cover)

St John’s College, one of the largest Colleges within the University of Cambridge, is seeking to appoint an Academic Administrator to provide comprehensive, high-quality project support and policy advice to the Director of Education & Senior Tutor as well as excellent administrative support to Directors of Studies, Tutors and the wider teaching community in a range of subjects. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding individual to join the team of Academic Administrators within the Director of Education & Senior Tutor’s Department.

The role is to cover a period of maternity leave and will be for a fixed term of up to 12.5 months.

You will provide project support and policy advice to the Director of Education & Senior Tutor on a range of academic issues, briefing her regularly on project progress.  This will include providing statistical analysis, drafting papers and reports, preparing presentations and assisting with the implementation of projects and key initiatives within the College.

You will also work with Tutors, Directors of Studies and other teaching staff within appointed subject areas. In this context you will manage a wide range of administrative activities and be responsible for the continual improvement of processes and systems to facilitate the delivery of excellent, proactive and efficient administrative support, including the servicing of Subject Reviews, committees and other key meetings.   

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level, or with equivalent experience.  Significant project management and administrative experience are essential, along with excellent IT skills, communication skills and interpersonal skills. Candidates will have strong self-management skills, evidence of working effectively in teams, and have the ability to work well under pressure.  Previous experience in the University sector and in the management of change would be desirable. 

The ideal candidate will also be able to demonstrate a strong interest in supporting current initiatives at St John’s College to widen the access and participation of students from under-represented communities, promote student well-being, deliver outstanding undergraduate education and encourage strong academic performance across all subjects taught within the College.
