St John’s Rugby Team secure League trophy

St John’s Rugby first XV have secured the League trophy after a victory against Downing.

A dominant performance by St John’s College Rugby Union Football Club resulted in a win against Downing at last Tuesday’s home match. The rival teams battled inclement weather as well as each other before St John’s emerged victorious with a 24-7 win, sealing a bonus point and the League title.

After a patchy start due to the playing conditions, vice-captain Tim Jones made the initial breakthrough. Thereafter, the Red Boys dominated the match. A well-worked try from Wes Cox early in the second half secured the win for the team, with other notable contributions coming from Chris Brook, Tom Zhang, James Parsloe, Tom Saunders and Jamie Crawford. St John’s victory is well deserved after the hard work they have put in this season.

The team are now turning their attention to the Cuppers Competition, in which St John’s are the defending champions.
