Richard Duffield, 'The Preacher's Assistant'. English, bef. 1830

 

Richard Duffield, BD, Fellow of St John's College, Rector of Frating and Thorrington (1783? - 1863): 'Preacher's Assistant' (title on spine only), c. 1830. Lists of well over one thousand printed sermons, mostly from the early part of the century, arranged by Book of the Bible, including Apocrypha. Latest additions seem to be publications of 1829. There is a text from almost every Book - the exceptions being Obadiah, Zephaniah, 2 and 3 John and several Apocryphal works - and an author index.

On p. ir: 'Compiled and written by the Revd Richard Duffield Rector of Frating with Thorrington Essex & Presented to the Library of St John's College Cambridge by Sophia Barbara Duffield [his widow, née Kerrich] March 1880'. Small College bookplate and heraldic bookplate of Richard Duffield (nineteenth century), both inside front cover.
