The original testimonial given to Prof. Edward Henry Palmer (1840-82) by a number of learned Indian Muslims in 1867, bearing witness to his remarkable knowledge of Arabic, Persian and Hindustani. The document is partly in Arabic and partly in Persian, the seals and signatures of the signatories being affixed at the side. An English translation of it can be found in Walter Besant's The life and achievements of Edward Henry Palmer (London, 1883) pp.53-61. It is dated the 8th of Dhu'l-Hijja 1283 / 13 April 1867.
