Investor in People
St John's College was the first of the Cambridge and Oxford Colleges to achieve recognition as an Investor in People for both the Academic and Assistant Staff.
Investor in People is a scheme that sets national standards of good working practices, providing a framework to work within to help and enable people to improve their performance, thereby helping to improve the overall performance of the organisation.
The College first achieved the standard in February 2003 and to do so had introduced a number of new iniatives, working practices and policies. These included defined communication and consultation policies, a commitment towards training and development and an annual personal development review system for all Assistant Staff.
Maintaining the required standard for accreditation is a continuing process with recognition reviews being required every three years. In November 2005 the College successfully underwent a re-accreditation assessment to retain its Investor in People recognition and retained its accreditation at the latest review in January 2009.
The College believes that, with its focus on staff training and development, and communications in particluar, the Investor in People standard helps the College to achieve practical benefits in all areas of its work and is in line with its aims and objectives. The College is committed to continual development throughout the organisation and this is assisted by the manner in which all of its staff are involved with, and fully support, the new iniatives.
Information about Investors in People is available on their website, where you can find details of the Standard.
