Dr Reginald Prince, 1927-2015

Dr Reginald Prince, Fellow in Chemistry at St John’s since 1960, has died at the age of 88.

Born in Newport, Monmouthshire, Dr Prince was awarded a BSc and a PhD from University College London, and he came to Cambridge in 1956 to further pursue his academic career at Sidney Sussex College. He was elected into the Fellowship at St John’s in 1960, also holding the positions of Director of Studies in Chemistry until 1986 and Lecturer until 1988.

From 1963 to 1988, Dr Prince was University Lecturer in Organic and Inorganic Chemistry. His research focused on kinetics and the mechanism of reactions of metal complexes, and coordination chemistry of metals and metalloenzymes. Dr Prince was also a Tutor at St John’s from 1963 to 1970, and in 1990 he received the degree of ScD (Doctor of Science).

Dr Prince was also a fine golfer and a regular competitor in the President’s Cup since the late 1940s, winning the Cup four times.

A funeral service for Dr Prince will take place in the West Chapel, Cambridge City Crematorium, on Monday 24 August at 3pm.
