Debut Play of John’s alumna to run at London Theatre

The debut play of actor and playwright, Charlotte Hamblin, is to run at the Tristan Bates Theatre in London this June.

Charlotte, who will also perform in the play, studied Education with English and Drama, graduating from the College in 2013.  During her time at John’s she was a member of the Footlights and an active participant in the Cambridge theatre scene, acting in 24 shows in the city.

Since leaving the College Charlotte has mainly worked as an actor, working extensively with the Oxford Shakespeare Company. She most recently played Lady Anne Acland in series six of Downton Abbey.

Charlotte has now turned her hand to play writing and her debut work ‘For those Who Cry When They Hear The Foxes Scream’ will be shown at the prestigious Tristan Bates Theatre from 7 June to 2 July 2016.

The play is an exploration of a same-sex female relationship and focuses on the themes of mental health, trauma and sexual identity. An early draft of the script was ranked in the top 20 of Arcola theatre’s PLAYWROUGHT competition.

The play is being produced by new non-profit theatre company, Antic Face, run by Emma Hall and Charlie Parham, who are also Cambridge graduates. Anna Reid, who graduated from St John’s with a degree in History of Art and Modern Languages in 2002, will be designing the set for the production.
