College Teaching Associates

College Teaching Associates supplement the Fellowship, assisting in the additional teaching and academic support the College provides to its students. They contribute to the intellectual, educational, and social life of the College and provide supervision and other forms of academic support for undergraduate students. CTAs work closely with other members of the teaching team to deliver a focused, rigorous and effective academic programme. They liaise regularly with the Director of Studies on student progress and with other Fellows on the organisation and progress of teaching in the subject.

Joanna Bellis

Medieval and Early Modern Literature
I teach papers in the English Tripos from Medieval Literature to Shakespeare and Practical Criticism. I am interested in the idea of 'writing history', and the interface between history, politics and literature more widely in the medieval and early modern period. My first book was The Hundred Years War in Literature, 1337-1600 (Cambridge, 2016), and with art historian Laura Slater I co-edited Representing War and Violence, 1250-1600 (Cambridge, 2016). I am the editor of John Page's The Siege of Rouen for Middle English Texts (Heidelberg, 2015). I'm currently working on a book about the development of eyewitness writing as a genre.

Dr Amaleena Damlé

20th- and 21st-century French and francophone literature, philosophy and visual culture
I work on questions of embodiment, gender, sexuality and affect across different forms of modern French and francophone culture. I have published various articles and co-edited volumes on these topics, as well as the monograph _The Becoming of the Body: Contemporary Women's Writing in French_ (EUP, 2014). I am currently writing a second book on emotional life in the feminine in contemporary French culture. I teach second- and final-year papers on 20th and 21st century French and francophone literature, thought and culture, as well as the comparative paper, ‘The Body’, which looks at representations of embodiment across European culture. I also teach the first-year introduction to French literature, thought and culture, and French translation.

Electrical Engineering
I supervise the electrical engineering papers for Parts 1A and 1B of the Engineering Tripos. Over the years my research and teaching, both in industry and academia, has varied widely from electrical contacts and switchgear to the mathematical modelling and formal specification of digital systems. Currently I am writing a book on A Theory of Circuit Analysis.

Dr Martin Parker Dixon

My doctoral and post-doctoral work was very much concerned with developing the interpretative correspondences between Continental Philosophy (especially Adorno, Heidegger and Sartre) and aspects of musical modernism such as neo-avant-gardism, the ontology of the "new", creativity, and the technological. I’ve since switched my attention to the other side of the Atlantic and my current work is invested in the inferentialist semantics of Robert Brandom. In the light of this theory I am re-considering more fundamental aesthetic problems of emotional expression in music, the propositional content of compositional technique, and the relationship between word and music in song.

Macroeconomics, International finance, fiscal policy and macro-financial linkages
My research interest fall into two areas in quantitative macroeconomics. In previous work, I have looked at fiscal policy design and bailout policies in response to public debt crises, and the interaction of policy instruments with economic inequality. More generally, I am interested in the impact of financial market imperfections on macroeconomic outcomes, and their effect on predictions for optimal macroeconomic policies. Furthermore, I study the origins and importance of cross-country spillovers in an increasingly globalised world, with a particular view on multinational corporations and financial institutions, the implications for international risk sharing and the scope for international policy coordination.

Anne-Sophie Letessier

French; 20th- and 21th- century Canadian literature; landscape studies
My doctoral work was focused on the politics and poetics of intermediality in Canadian landscape writing. Drawing on the pluridisciplinary field of landscape studies, I have worked on the politics of looking, the postcolonial parody of landscape pictorial codes, the theoretical foundation of the Western visual definition of landscape, and the phenomenological approaches to landscape. My attention has now veered toward the related notion of place and I am interested in the articulation between postcolonial and ecological ethos in Canadian writers’ ongoing reflection on the sense of place.

I teach Spanish language and translation into Spanish in the Spanish and Portuguese Department, and I supervise on Spanish language, translation, Text and culture, and linguistics. My research focuses in translation.
