Catering team win gold award for outstanding customer service

A gold certificate for outstanding customer service has been awarded to St John’s College by Cambridge BID for its catering operation.

Cambridge BID is an organisation that represents 1,100 shops, bars, cafés, attractions and services in Cambridge city centre and aims to ensure that visitors, locals and businesses enjoy a vibrant, safe and clean environment.

The awards are judged on visits carried out by undercover representatives of Cambridge BID, known as “mystery shoppers”, who visit without warning and look at aspects of customer service such as cleanliness, choices on offer, staff training, local knowledge and friendliness.

The Buttery at St John’s was visited by mystery shoppers in March and July, scoring over 90% across both visits, resulting in the gold award. Members of the catering team at St John's College

Bill Brogan, Catering and Conference Manager at St John’s said: “Cambridge BID were impressed with the cleanliness of the Buttery and our efforts to be environmentally friendly, but what they found particularly outstanding was the knowledge and friendliness of our staff and their commitment to delivering the very best customer service. I am delighted that they have been recognised in this way.”
